Overview
This interdisciplinary Masters programme is designed for students with an interest in the intersection of health and population sciences. In addition to demographic research training, students engage with contemporary and emerging health issues in Africa and their implications for development. Graduates are competitive in the job market alongside Public Health degree holders, with a specialised quantitative skill set.
Career Opportunities
Public health research institutions, health ministries and government departments, international health organisations, academic positions, and epidemiology and health data analytics roles in the private sector.

- SOSS 7010A: Research Report (compulsory)
- SOSS 7071A: Health Demography
- COMH 7200: Epidemiology for Health Researchers I (elective)
- COMH 7201: Epidemiology for Health Researchers II (elective)
- COMH 7202: Epidemiology for Health Researchers III (elective)
- Select topic in Social Sciences (elective)
Students must complete 3 courses and the research report. Please note: there are no block-release or after-hours lectures.
Entry Requirements
A bachelor's degree with honours from Wits or another recognised university, with a minimum 65% aggregate.
