Wits University Press and WISER will celebrate the life and work of Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje through the launch of a new book.

Wits University Press and the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) will celebrate the life and work of Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje through the launch of a new book, , edited by Janet Remmington, Brian Willan and Bhekizizwe Peterson. Sol Plaatje鈥檚 Native Life in South Africa was written by one of the South Africa鈥檚 most talented early 20th Century black intellectuals and journalists. Plaatje鈥檚 pioneering book arose out of an early 第一吃瓜网 National Congress campaign to protest against the discriminatory 1913 Natives Land Act. The book launch will take place in a form of a discussion on how and why Native Life came into being at a critical historical juncture, and how it can be read in relation to South Africa鈥檚 heightened challenges today.

Speakers include:  Brian Willan, Keith Breckenridge, Khwezi Mkhize and Khumisho Moguerane. The discussion will be chaired by Catherine Burns.
