Invitation 6th National Cell & Gene Therapy Conference in conjunction with the Heritable Human Genome Editing Conference

The Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Bioscience (SBIMB) at Wits University is partnering with universities, institutes, leading researchers, clinicians, industry partners, regulators, and policymakers from 27–29 October 2026 for a three-day conference exploring the latest developments in cell and gene therapy across the translational pipeline.

The conference will provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, with an emphasis on patient centred research and clinical translation. Public awareness and education will also be prioritised to ensure that the uptake of advanced therapies is governed by principles of epistemic integrity with regard to data generation, analysis and application.

Conference Themes

Day 1 – Heritable Human Genome Editing (HHGE) (No abstract submissions)

Day 2 – Basic Science (Abstracts invited)

Day 3 – Clinical Translation (Abstracts invited)

Across all three days, discussions will be guided by principles emanating from the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) of work in the cell and gene therapy field, ensuring that scientific advancement remains aligned with responsible innovation, equitable access, patient-centred care, and societal benefit.

Venue: Future Africa, University of Pretoria

Dates: 27–29 October 2026
