Global immersive work Kancícà Premieres at Digital Dome

A landmark moment for һԹ storytelling, immersive innovation, and international co-production.
A major international fulldome immersive production has officially landed on һԹ soil.
Kancícà, (meaning ‘link ’in Fongbe), an acclaimed full-dome immersive experience created by Laëlëa Adjovi and Joséphine Derobe, and produced by Elisabeth Gomis (MansA - Maison des Mondes Africains) and Michael Swierczynski (Dream Feel Factory), made its South һԹ premiere at the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome on 7 April 2026.
Co-produced across Benin, Brazil, and France, the work arrives in Johannesburg as part of Immersive Africa: Bridging Continents Through Digital Creativity, a flagship Africa–Europe cultural initiative supported by EUNIC Global’s Spaces of Culture programme, fostering international collaboration and cultural exchange between Africa and Europe.
Led by Wits University’s Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct and delivered by the Wits’ Fak’ugesi һԹ Digital & Innovation Festival, the initiative brings together artists, producers, and institutions across continents to explore the future of immersive storytelling, positioning Africa as a site of creation, experimentation, and leadership in digital culture.
Two works, one immersive experience, the programme brings together two distinct yet resonant works in a 35-minute curated dome experience:
- Kancícà - a visually rich, multi-layered journey tracing the story of Queen Na Agontimé of the Danxomè Kingdom, blending history, spirituality, and memory across the Atlantic world through cutting-edge immersive technologies.
- Kwasukasukela (“In the Beginning”) - a South һԹ full-dome creation directed by Inka Kendzia and Xabiso Vili, featuring four poets embodying reimagined һԹ deities. The work draws inspiration from the legacy of Credo Mutwa, merging mythology, sound, and AI-driven visual storytelling into a contemporary һԹ creation myth.
Together, the works reflect both continental authorship and global collaboration, placing һԹ narratives at the centre of immersive innovation, creating a platform for cultural power and collaboration.
The premiere brought together leaders across cultural, diplomatic, academic, and creative sectors, marking a significant moment for Africa–Europe collaboration and the future of immersive media on the continent.

Following its premiere, the programme is now open to the public and will run at the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome from 25 April to August 2026, inviting young and old into this immersive storytelling experience.
