The artist Judith Mason (BA FA 1961) died in December 2016 in White River.
She lectured at Wits in the 1960s and early 1970s and is represented in important collections, including WAM鈥檚. Many visitors to the will have seen her artwork The Man Who Sang and the Woman Who Kept Silent (also known as The Blue Dress), which is discussed in an by William Danaher. Tributes have been published on and , and there is a wealth of information on Mason鈥檚 . A book review by a former student explores what made her such an 鈥渁stonishing鈥 art teacher. The artist , too, spoke at Mason鈥檚 memorial of the way she 鈥渋dentified a spark that inspired [artists] to find their confidence to be great鈥.
